About Spectrum Podcasts
I started this project in July 2011 as a means of bringing a variety of expert voices on a wide range of topics of interest to parents, educators, counselors, and others. My intentions were to provide practical and conceptual information in a format with a flavor of a conversation (rather than a more formal interview).
It took a little while to get set up and figure out the technology. Although I recorded my first program— with Dr. Lulu Lopez talking to me via Skype from the landline from a separate room at the other end of my office!— the first program wasn’t published until mid-November. As of mid-January 2012, we’re working to get our legs under us and my own podcast pages will be available by the time this page launches!
In addition to the roughly 30-minute audio file, I also wanted to offer a visual resource in the form of a handout. (Hey, I’m a teacher. I can’t help myself!) So for each program, you will find a PDF with program highlights, notes, tips, and additional resources (articles, books, Web sites, etc.), linked from the same page that hosts the audio file.
Guests are also invited to provide a handouts, article, PowerPoint (or Keynote) presentation, outline, or any other materials that support the topic, and if they do, you’ll find those resources there as well.
In addition to being available from the Multimedia section of this site, the programs are also published on EnergizeStudents.org and are also available on iTunes.* I will update this information as additional distribution channels become available.
