2008 Vacation:
Italy and Eastern Mediterranean
This trip gave us a badly needed break and some good, solid time together. We were gone 24 days, from Oct. 26 until Nov. 18, and during this time, I had very limited (and generally poor) internet access, so uploading photos was out of the question. And trying to keep up with a blog (even to post later) was just something I couldn’t squeeze in between excursions, computer classes, and driving from one place to another. I also didn’t have time for writing and sending traditional postcards, which I wanted to do from every place we went.
But I wanted a way to stay in touch with family and friends, so instead, I decided to email postcards this time. I found this cute little Postcard software (shareware I downloaded before I left home) that allowed me to drag a photo I’d taken (or any other, for that matter) into a blank card template and type the message on the right, just like a regular postcard. And when I could get online, I would send out one postcard, sometimes two, in an email to a bunch of friends and family. The itinerary was fantastic, and I was able to send a card from almost every place we visited.
If you didn’t receive all (or any) of these cards, I’ve posted them on the following pages:
Click here to see page 1: Bellagio, Pisa, and Florence
Click here to see page 2: Maranello, Pompeii, and Taormina (Sicily)
Click here to see page 3: Cyprus and Egypt

Slide Shows
On each of these pages, there are links to slideshows. You can check out a specific album by clicking on the link to that album (or by clicking on the postcard, although not all of the albums have corresponding postcards. If a particular location has more than one album, the postcard links to the first of the two.)
You can also go directly to my Gallery, which lists all of the albums. You can scan the album by dragging your cursor over the photo. Click on any album and then click on an individual picture or play the slideshow or any of the other dispaly options at the bottom of the page. Or click the links below:

Itinerary

I borrowed this map from the InSight Cruises Web site, which offered this MacMania Geek Cruise.
One other note: I have done my best to annotate the photos I’ve posted. Because photographing these images tends to take me away from the tours (or lagging behind waiting for people to clear out of a shot), I often miss important information that would help me later identify a photo or provide details. (Even with the headset, I could hear the presentations, but I was generally framing a very different view at the time.) If anyone has information or corrections about any of the labels (or lack of labels) on any of these photos, please let me know.
