Plain Talk About Spanking
Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education (PTAVE) offers this publication for the benefit of children everywhere. The ideas that you will read here are not new. Parenting With Purpose: Five Keys to Raising Children With Values and Vision
This book by Robert Reasoner and Marilyn Lane is based on over 25 years of research and experience. Research has demonstrated that unless children’s basic social/emotional needs for security, identity, belonging, purpose, and competence are met, they are likely to engage in anti-social behaviors and seek the means to compensate for their unfulfilled basic needs. This book provides a framework with over 150 activities that parents can use to fulfill these needs while developing the personal characterisitics they would most like to see in their children.

When Parents Disagree and What You Can Do About It
by Dr. Ron Taffel with Roberta Israeloff
One of the most common questions I get from parents in my workshops comes from a parent who has a very different set of rules or expectations from his or her spouse. This is one of the first books I’ve seen that addresses these issues. Written for parents in heterosexual relationships whose parenting styles differ from one another, the approach is pretty traditional and will apply to a great many families, however techniques can apply to a variety of family configurations with more than one adult involved in a child’s upbringing. (Guilford Press, London, 1994). Available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
