Secrets of Successful Mentorship

If you are fortunate enough to be a mentor, whether to a colleague, a trainee, a newcomer to your field, or a chid in your life, there are certain beliefs and behaviors that will make you more effective in your role.

Practical suggestions for encouraging, inspiring, envisioning, guiding, accepting, facilitating, maintaining standards and values, expanding current reality, supporting and, when necessary, detaching and letting go—skills appropriate for educators, administrators, parents, counselors, support staff, community members, employers and anyone who works in a leadership capacity.
